Many of our Australian Labradoodle puppies have either joined their forever home or will be joining them soon. We at Ashford Manor wanted to dedicate the next several blog posts to informing you of habits to establish early on with your puppy so you will have a successful and positive relationship with them.
One of the first things to address is using a crate. The crate is one of the most effective tools you can use when training your puppy. The first thing to do is to properly introduce your puppy to the crate. (If you are using one of our crates, your puppy will already be familiar with their crate.) The initial introduction of the crate will help your puppy embrace the crate as his own. One of the best ways to encourage your puppy to like the crate is to use toys or treats to encourage your puppy to spend time in there. The first few times leave the door open. As he gets more comfortable with the crate you will be able to leave him in the crate and close the door.
Benefits of the crate are:
It will keep your puppy safe when you are away from the home.
It helps in potty training your puppy.
It provides a place for your puppy to call home.
It gives you control of your puppy.
It is a place for your puppy to rest.
It is a place that gives you peace of mind (knowing that your puppy isn’t getting into trouble).
