Heartworm, Flea, and Tick Meds
It is very important to use a Heartworm each and every month of your dogs life. We have a couple that we recommend, they are
all chewable. All of these are tried and true by us here at Ashford Manor Labradoodles. Every year your dog should be tested by your veterinarian for heart worms
- Heartguard Plus
- Tri-Heart Plus
- Interceptor Plus (has dewormer in it already)
If you are not giving your dog a Heartworm with deworming in it you will need to use a Pyrantel Paomate each month for the deworming. This can be purchase at a farm store or on Amazon in various sizes.
Flea and ticks should be given in warm climates all year around. In cooler climates if the temperatures get below freezing for several weeks you can stop these during that time. A general rule of thumb in Indiana is start flea and tick meds in April and end in October.
- Frontline Plus – topical
- Bravecto – chewable
- Serresto Collar – a collar that stays on for 8 months, the problem with this is it is bulky and can cause matting under the collar
If you would like to use a combination heart worm, flea, tick, ear mites, and more then there are a few options to try. We have not used these at Ashford Manor Labradoodles although we know of other breeders who have used them successfully.
- Vectra 3D
- Sentinel
- Revolution
We do recommend that you use separate products for your dogs instead of the combination products. Some areas of the country the dogs seem to build up a resistance to some medications more than others. So it may be a trial and error if you see fleas or ticks on your Australian Labradoodle.
Hopefully this will give you enough options to find something that works for you. There are other products on the market that we do not recommend using so please stick to this list.
