Leptospirosis

So there is more and more evidence showing that it is not necessary to give your Australian Labradoodle a Leptospirosis shot. Leptospirosis is one of the things that vets have always said to make sure you give your dog because humans can get it. If your Australian Labradoodle lives in your home and is not an outside dog, there is little chance that they will be catching Leptrospirosis bacterium.

Leptospirosis is a very rare infection which can cause death.   • fever
  • Decreased appetite
  • Weakness
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Yellow around gums and eyes
  • Frequent Urination

Leptospirosis is a painful vaccination if given alone. This is a vaccine that has a higher chance of causing an allergic reaction. There is no Leptospirosis shot which covers every strand, so there is still a chance your Australian Labradoodle could get the infection.

There is still much debate about the Leptospirosis vaccine. This is something that you will need to speak to your veterinarian about as they will know more about this in your area. Please be advised to why your vet chooses to give the vaccine or doesn’t and make sure they are aware of the habits of your dog.
