Did you know it’s much harder for your Australian Labradoodle to respond to your commands if they can’t see your face? Dogs pick up on a lot more than just words — they often rely on your facial expressions, mouth movement, and even subtle head gestures when deciding how to respond.

The Challenge

  1. Cover your face.
Place a lightweight cloth, scarf, or small towel over your face so your dog can’t see your expressions.
  2. Give a familiar command.
Use a word your Ashford Manor Australian Labradoodle knows well — like sitdown, or stay.
  3. Watch their reaction.
Do they respond right away, or do they hesitate without that visual cue?

Why This Works

This exercise shows you how much your Labradoodle relies on visual communication in training. If they struggle without seeing your face, it’s a great reminder to practice commands in multiple ways — with and without hand signals, and with both close and distant positioning.

Training Tip

To strengthen your dog’s listening skills, practice giving commands:

  • From another room (so they can’t see you)
  • With your back turned
  • In different tones of voice

Over time, this helps your Australian Labradoodle respond based purely on the word you say, not the visual cues you give.
