Does your dog fear riding in your car?  If he does, he isn’t alone, but there are many things that you can do to aid him in overcoming this fear.  Our Australian Labradoodles are very perceptive and intelligent.  Here at, Ashford Manor Labradoodles, we take our dogs on at least two car rides as part of our socialization process.

Here are ways you can help your dog overcome the fear of riding in a car. As you approach you car, make sure that you keep your voice calm and your body language relaxed. When you approach the car, talk to your dog about the ride and reward him with a treat as he enters the vehicle.  Start with short trips, keeping calm and rewarding him with treats throughout the drive.  Remember, the key to helping your dog overcome his fear of the car is to no longer associate the car with fear but with a positive feeling.  By giving your dog treats this will help the association happen.  Continue this pattern, but as time passes increase your trips, and eventually with enough time, patience, understanding, and love, hopefully your puppy will overcome this fear and the car will no longer scare him.
