Fall has a way of inviting us outside. The air feels cooler, leaves crunch beneath our feet, and an everyday walk offers new things to discover. It’s a wonderful time to change up your routine and enjoy a little adventure with your Australian Labradoodle. And the best part? You don’t need to travel far or plan a long hike to make it special.
A New Route, New Discoveries
If you usually take the same walk around your neighborhood, try choosing a different neighborhood to explore each week. A new route gives you a change of scenery and your ALD a whole new collection of smells to investigate. That patch of grass, line of trees, or leaf-covered sidewalk might be worth a good, long sniff!
If you and your dog prefer walking in the woods, choose a different trail the next time you head out. It doesn’t have to be longer or more challenging. Even a short path can offer plenty of adventure when you leave time to stop and explore. Let the outing be about what you discover together, without worrying about how much ground you cover.
Follow Their Curiosity
As you walk, pay attention to the little things that catch your ALD’s interest. Is there an intriguing scent beneath a fallen leaf? Does an old tree stump deserve a closer look? You may never know exactly what has captured their attention but watching them investigate is part of the fun.
Give your dog time for those sniffing stops, keeping an eye on what they find so the exploring stays safe. A nose nudging through fallen leaves can make you pause, too. You might notice the bright colors overhead, hear a squirrel rustling nearby, or discover a quiet corner you’ve walked past before.
Make It an Adventure for Two
Let your Ashford Manor Labradoodle help set the pace now and then. When they pause to investigate something, take a moment to share their interest. When they look back at you, greet that check-in with a warm word or a small treat. These little exchanges are opportunities to connect throughout your walk.
You can add a bit of playful teamwork along the way. Invite your ALD to follow you around a tree, pause together at a bend in the trail, or practice a familiar “sit” before continuing down the path. Keep it light and easy, with plenty of time for simply being together.
Start a Little Fall Tradition
Pick one walk each week to be your fall adventure walk. Visit a different neighborhood, explore a dog-friendly park, or try an unfamiliar woodland trail. You might even snap a photo at each stop—a leafy path, a beautiful tree, or your ALD with their nose pointed toward the next discovery.
Choose an outing that feels comfortable for your dog’s age, energy, and abilities. Make sure to bring waste bags, water, and a few treats. A short outing with time to sniff and wander can be a lovely part of your day.
Building a bond happens in everyday moments: paying attention, sharing an experience, and enjoying each other’s company. This fall, take a different turn and see what your ALD sniffs out. A little adventure might be waiting just around the corner.
