We will show you a video in this post about encouraging a puppy  to overcome fear.

Your puppy will go through several different fear periods which happen around these time frames:

  • 8 – 10 weeks – so just after you bring your Australian Labradoodle home
  • anywhere in the 6 – 14 month period

You will notice the second fear period is a long length of time. It is important that once you bring your puppy home and start working with them you don’t just stop. You need to keep exposing them to new places, people, things, and textures. Don’t stop just because they have made it through obedience training and you have a well behaved dog.

Some things to look for

  • Cowering
  • Hiding
  • Tail tucked
  • Shying away
  • Shivering
  • Fearful barking

Something you can do to make things worse are picking them up and protecting them, coddling them, being anxious, being angry, punishing them or dragging them closer to whatever is making them afraid.

To help your Doodle overcome fear keep exposing them to things, have lots of treats and lure them to the object they are afraid of.

Praise them, praise them, praise them!
